MHS boys tennis team finishes regular season 17-4

YANKTON — The Mitchell High School boys tennis team finished up its regular season with two more Eastern South Dakota Conference victories on Tuesday in Yankton.

Mitchell downed Brandon Valley 8-1 and Yankton 6-3 to finish the season 17-4 in duals this season.

Carter Cavanaugh (Flight 2), Adam Loes (Flight 3), Baley Miller (Flight 4) and Ryan Bergeson (Flight 6) each won both singles matches, while the doubles team of Loes and Miller won both doubles matches (Flight 2).

MHS head coach Pat Moller said he continues to be impressed with what he's seen out of Bergeson. The sophomore improved to 20-4 on the season beating Yankton eighth-grader Gage Becker (13-3) for the second time this season.

"He played really well in both matches," Moller said about Bergeson said. "He's peaking at the right time."

Loes and Miller improved to 21-3 on the season in Flight 2 doubles, besting Brandon Valley's Jacob Frantzen and Evan Talcott 10-3 and Yankton's Isaac Klimisch and Becker 10-0.

"No. 1, they are really good friends and they got some great chemistry out there," Moller said. "They have the same approach to the game and that's been beneficial to them."

Up next, Mitchell competes in the ESD tournament on Thursday in Aberdeen.

"We'll have a lot of No. 1 seeds," said Moller, adding his team has gone 101-7 in ESD matches this season.
